Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL)

Thursdays: 12:30 – 3PM

The VESL program is appropriate for English language learners who need to prepare for the workplace and career training. It also is in support of the CTE (Career Technical Education) program from SAC SCE (Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education) to acquire the State of California General Office Clerk Certificate.

Content of the program:

  • VESL for Word Processing Using MS Word

  • VESL for Spreadsheets Using MS Excel

  • VESL for Microsoft Windows

Notes: Subjects will be changed in each semester.

Microsoft Windows 10 - Student Learning Objectives

Students completing this course satisfactorily will be able to:

  1. Identify the Windows 10 desktop screen components such as icons, shortcuts, tiles, and start menu.

  2. Use the functions of a computer mouse.

  3. Work with the Taskbar and Notification area.

  4. Create user account and password.

  5. Work proficiency in Windows accessory applications.

  6. Create folders and sub-folders.

  7. Move, delete, and copy Files and Folders.

  8. Demonstrate basic MS Windows operating system navigation and file management skills.

  9. Create, save, open, and print program files and documents.

Microsoft Word - Student Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Create and edit simple to moderately complex text documents.

  2. Save and print text documents.

  3. Format text and paragraphs using the Mini Toolbar and the Ribbon.

  4. Create and format tables.

  5. Illustrate documents with graphics.

  6. Merge Word documents.
