Hello, my name is Yesenia Flores and I love teaching! It is truly my passion, and I feel especially passionate about teaching students at the introductory levels. Students in my class build a foundation that will set them up to succeed in advanced levels.
I graduated from Rosary High School in Fullerton, Ca. From there I earned an associates degree from Golden west College. I completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree and teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience and have worked for Garden Grove Unified School District for over 20 years. I teach Beginning Literacy ESL in the afternoons, and Beginning Literacy ESL in the evenings. In addition to ESL, I teach the High School Equivalency Preparation class (GED & HiSet) Thursday and Friday mornings.
I love learning new technology and have recently taken on the role as web editor for our school website as well as our social media accounts. It's especially exciting to share online the wonderful events at Lincoln Education Center.
My goal is always to create a safe and comfortable space where students build the courage to take chances in ‘the real world’. Within our safe space, many friendships are built and students feel a stronger connection to the community.
Learning should be enjoyable. That is why I incorporate games, group interactions, songs, paired conversations and many more exciting ways to learn English while having fun. Of course, we also use text books and computer programs to support learning. We have access to state of the art technology such as Google Chromebooks. From there, students have access to several web-based educational computer programs.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cuddling my chihuahuas, making watercolor cards for birthdays, playing my ukulele and snowboarding in the winter.
